Solar Smash Weapons: All 34 Weapons Explained, Best Weapon and Settings

Last updated: 8 September 2026. Sources: the Weapons page of the Solar Smash community wiki (weapon count, categories, settings ranges, variants) cross-checked with the in-game weapon menu; developer listing on Google Play.

Solar Smash has 34 weapons in the current version (31 if you leave out the three defensive ones), plus a handful of Galaxy Smash tools. Nine of them have a settings panel where you can change strength, size, amount, colour or variant. The menu sorts them into categories by icon rather than by name, so this list follows the same order and uses the names the community uses. If you are looking for the single “best weapon”, skip to the end; the answer depends on whether you want speed, precision or a spectacle.

A general rule first: most weapons remove voxels from the inside of the planet and paint the surface around the impact; everyone living inside that radius moves from the population counter to the deaths counter. Most weapons can be queued up to eight times while the game is paused. The Energy Beam is the exception and keeps cutting for as long as you hold.

Spacial weapons

Asteroid: one rock with a flaming tail. Size and speed are adjustable and together decide how deep the crater goes. Variants: Snowball (freezes rather than burns). Meteor Shower: five or six small meteors per tap, continuous if held; each is about a 0.75-size asteroid. Moon: fires the Moon itself; it ploughs through at constant speed and explodes when it has taken enough damage. Variant: 8-Ball. Black Hole: grows, removes everything within about twice its visible radius, then shrinks away. Several at once are the best way through Machine World’s shield. Variants: Large, and a healing version. Vortex: a purple cloud that starts throwing lightning after two seconds; hits big targets more reliably than small ones. Wormhole: System Smash only; a pair teleports planets, a single one makes objects vanish.

Energy weapons

Nuclear Missiles: the default is five missiles at strength 1, scattered around the tap; set amount to 1 for a precise hit (good for killing ships), amount up to 100 and strength up to 5 for a surface wipe. Best all-round shield breaker. Fusion Core (the “bomb”): lands and sits there doing nothing until something damages it, then its lights go white, red, and it detonates. Chain several together and set them off with one laser. Missile Station: a small satellite that fires about six weak shots; mostly cosmetic. Remote Detonate: a missile that sticks to the surface and explodes on command. Anti-Matter Missile: a blue implosion that strips all surface voxels in a wide radius; one of the highest population kills per shot. Variant: SpaceY rocket, which splits into a capsule and a falling booster. Mining Drill: drills straight through to the far side, very hard for defences to stop and goes through shields. Variant: Christmas Tree.

Laser-based weapons

Kinetic Artillery: rapid weak lasers while held; only surface damage but a fast way to raise the Weapons Master counter. Plasma: a bolt that leaves a crater and shockwave; strength 0.5 to 5, and at 5 it is one of the hardest single hits in the game. Bounces off shields if fired at an angle. Energy Beam: the continuous laser; strength 0.5 to 5, colour adjustable; also the weapon that turns the Sun into a supernova. Gauss Cannon: cuts a clean hole straight through the planet along a line, detonating any bombs in its path; poor against shields, brutal otherwise. Ancient Probe: circles, fires a few lasers, leaves and explodes. Weak. Laser Sword: scratches voxels away and, with the targeting buttons, can slice a planet in half horizontally. Variants: Darksaber, Rainbow.

Alien technology

UFO: flies in, fires a green beam about 1,700 km wide, jumps out. Variants: Mothership (spawns UFOs) and Attack Mothership (a single heavy laser); both have point-defence lasers. Orbital Cannon (Laser Satellite): orbits west to east firing at the core indefinitely; colour and strength adjustable. Fighter Wing (Quantum Shift Fighters): five squadrons borrowed from the studio’s other game, each with its own projectile. Battleship: jumps in, bombards with plasma or a continuous laser, and jumps out; cannot be destroyed. Planet Killer: opens three wings, charges, and fires a particle beam that cracks the whole planet and blows it apart. The fastest way to finish any planet, but it fails if the planet is already too damaged. Variant: Death Star. Von Neumann Probe: pulls up material, copies itself, and the copies copy themselves until the planet is gone. Gravity Generator: System Smash ship that emits weak, adjustable gravity waves.

Monsters

Swarm: hundreds of locusts that scorch the surface; cannot be targeted. Variant: Nanite. Leviathan (space worm): burrows in where you tapped, turns randomly, exits and flies off; now damageable by anything. Variant: Mecha. Monarch: burrows like the worm but with fire, and you can steer it. Abyssal Devourer: eight tentacles from a portal grab a chunk of planet and pull it away. Celestial: a giant humanoid that stares for two seconds, then punches. Variant: Gigachad. Doge (Space Shiba): arrives, bonks the planet, leaves within five seconds. Variant: Cheems. Polygon Entity: two triangles that split into many and fire a laser strong enough to cut through a planet in seconds; a single Kinetic Artillery shot destroys it. Its design is a clear nod to Ramiel from Evangelion, which is why “solar smash ramiel” and “evangelion” show up in searches.

Defence

Shield Ship: deploys a regenerating hexagonal shield like Machine World’s; destroy the ship and the shield stays down. Variant: Large. Defensive Satellite: shoots down incoming weapons; 20 to 50 of them will shred fighter fleets. Mines: sit in the atmosphere and attack nearby ships.

Seasonal

The Christmas set from December 2020 is now permanent. Random Gift throws presents that release a random weapon when damaged. Xmas Tree is a drill variant. Snowball is an asteroid variant that freezes.

Galaxy Smash weapons

The Galactic Laser removes stars; the attracting and repelling Magnets pull stars together or push them apart. Galaxy Smash itself is unlocked through the Galaxy Smash! achievement, described in our achievements guide.

Settings that matter

The settings icon appears under the category buttons for customisable weapons. Strength usually runs 0.5 to 5, amount up to 100 for missiles, and colour is cosmetic. Two settings change the game: Nuclear Missiles at amount 66 (for the Order 66 achievement) and Plasma at strength 5. The Grid tool, also in this panel, is what the shape achievements use.

Best weapon in Solar Smash

For finishing a planet fastest: Planet Killer, provided you use it before the planet is badly cracked. For population: Anti-Matter Missile, then Nuclear Missiles at high amount. For shields: stacked Black Holes or the Mining Drill. For precision: a single Nuclear Missile or the Gauss Cannon. For XP farming: Kinetic Artillery for the weapon counter, and a mix of four different weapons per planet for the variety bonus. There is no weapon that is best at everything, which is the point.

Weapons FAQ
