Surviving the first two minutes
Play the edges early. The middle of the map is where the large snakes hunt and where collisions happen by accident; the outer ring has fewer cubes but far fewer threats. Build your first few merges there, then move inward when you can afford a mistake.
Never chase a cube into a gap between two moving snakes. The commonest death in this genre is not being hunted but drifting into someone while focused on food.
Merging deliberately
Do not eat every cube you pass. Cubes that do not match anything you are carrying clutter your tail and slow the growth of your highest value. Look at what you already hold and pick up the values that extend a chain; leave the rest for someone else.
When you are near a bigger snake, keep your highest values toward the front of your body and turn early rather than sharply. Wide turns read as predictable to other players, which is exactly what you want when you are the smaller one.
