Magikmon is a browser monster-collecting RPG in the classic mould: explore a magical world, weaken wild creatures in turn-based combat, capture them, and build a team strong enough for the next region. It has been around since June 2019, is still being updated as recently as May 2026, and has collected more than 5,000 votes at 8.8/10, making it one of the most played games in this catalogue.
It is portrait and point-and-click, which is unusual for an RPG and makes it genuinely comfortable on a phone.
How to play Magikmon
Navigation and interaction are point-and-click: tap where you want to go and tap what you want to examine. Combat is turn-based, so nothing happens until you choose an action. In a battle with a wild creature the loop is to reduce its health without knocking it out, then attempt the capture; a healthy creature will usually break free.
Your own team levels up through fights. Creatures you capture arrive weak and become useful after a few battles, so an early capture is an investment rather than an instant upgrade.
Building a balanced team
The advice that matters most in this game is to mix creature types rather than collecting favourites. Monster RPGs are built on a rock-paper-scissors relationship between types, and a team of four similar creatures will hit a wall at the first opponent that resists all of them. Aim for coverage: something fast, something durable, and at least two different damage types.
Keep a weakened but not fainted creature in reserve for captures. Capturing is far easier when the wild creature is close to defeat, and having a low-damage option on the team makes that state easier to reach without overshooting.
Pacing and progress
Magikmon is the longest-form game on this site. Sessions are open-ended, battles are short, and the world opens up gradually as your team gets stronger. Because it is turn-based, it tolerates interruption well: you can leave a battle mid-turn and come back.
If an area suddenly feels impossible, the answer is almost always a few more levels rather than a different tactic. Grinding two or three levels on easier creatures is faster than repeatedly losing to the wall.
Magikmon FAQ
Is it like Pokémon?
It uses the same broad idea, capturing and training creatures with turn-based battles, but it is an original browser game with its own creatures and world.
Does my progress save?
Progress is stored in the browser. Playing in the same browser without clearing site data will usually restore your team.
How long is it?
Far longer than anything else on this site. Expect hours rather than minutes.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It was designed portrait-first and plays well with touch.
Building a team for the next region
Magikmon’s turn-based fights make team composition more important than a single strong creature. A captured monster can fill a gap in the group, while an identical one may add less than it first appears. Explore and weaken wild creatures carefully, then consider whether the new option helps with the next area. On a phone, the portrait presentation keeps this point-and-click progression readable without needing a separate app.
